At IPS School 88, a young boy was having a tough morning when Sgt. Precious Cornner-Jones of the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section stepped in with a simple act of kindness.
The boy had fallen to the floor, overwhelmed. His mom explained this had become his way of expressing himself lately. Instead of scolding or rushing him, Sgt. Cornner-Jones knelt down, met him where he was, and began talking with him.
When tears came, she gently wiped them away and reassured him that everything would be okay.
“Sometimes, even as adults, we just want someone to pause, show empathy, and maybe wipe away our tears,” she said. “Children deserve that same grace. They’re allowed to have bad days too.”
Her reminder is powerful: meet people where they are, offer comfort, and spread a little peace and love. You never know—you just might be the person who gives someone hope. ❤️
