How The BB Blockbuster Twist Is Impacting Gameplay

Big Brother’s most divisive twist has been a tough pill to swallow for viewers this season, as it’s changing the game in both good and bad ways. Throughout Big Brother 27, viewers have been excited to watch an array of game moves that have, at some times, felt more like old school BB than the game has in recent years.

While Big Brother 27’s cast has been amplified by Rachel Reilly, winner of Big Brother 13 and a legend in her own right, some of their game moves have been smart while others have been horrible. Though each season in recent years, it’s been clear that there’s been some confusion on how to play the game, especially for players who were recruited for the series.

Though there have been some interesting twists over the last few seasons of Big Brother, none has impacted the game more than the BB Blockbuster, which was called the AI Arena during Big Brother 26. With three nominees, two chances to save themselves, and just one person going home each week, the twist has revitalized the game in many ways, but hurt it in others.

The BB Blockbuster Has Allowed Different Strategic Elements Into The Game

Players Have To Be More Careful

While Big Brother’s addition of another competition that allows the trio of nominees two chances to save themselves helps shift the game frequently, it’s been a difficult adjustment for long-time viewers of the series. Big Brother has shown that adding another nominee can change the style of gameplay frequently, and on top of that, allows for more blood to get on the HOH’s hands.

The BB Blockbuster twist has proven to make the game a bit tougher, as it’s hard to solidify who’s going home until the results of the competition are revealed. The Blockbuster has been an interesting piece of the puzzle, creating new innovation within the game, but it’s something that a lot of viewers have struggled to accept as a part of the game.

The BB Blockbuster Creates A Lot Of Bottlenecking In The Game

There’s Such A Thing As Being Too Careful

Although Big Brother has embraced the Blockbuster as a major piece of its strategic puzzle, it’s not something all viewers are interested in seeing continue after the first phase of the game. While naming a trio of nominees can make for a more dramatic style of gameplay, viewers haven’t been able to get behind the twist as a long-term game component.

While it can be interesting to see three players nominated, the BB blockbuster can stifle game talk throughout the week. Without any concrete idea of who will be on the nomination block on eviction night, houseguests talk a little less about strategy than they have in the past. While the twist has revitalized some strategy, Big Brother should reconsider how long the twist lasts.

Big Brother airs Sundays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
