For Johnny and Wilma Box, Memorial Day is not just a holiday—it is sacred. On their land, they hand-plant 2,500 American flags, each one honoring a fallen soldier. Johnny, a veteran of Desert Storm and Afghanistan, knows too well the weight of names that never came home.

Their backs ache for days, but their hearts push them forward. People travel miles to see the flags, walk among them, and remember the lives lost. Next year, they will add 142 headstones, etched with the names of local heroes.

While some decorate for holidays, the Boxes decorate for heroes. Their devotion is a living memorial, reminding us all that freedom is never free, and sacrifice must never be forgotten.
