Last night, my son Jordan came into my room and said, “Mom, you won’t believe what happened today.”
He told me he was at Walmart, ready to head home, when his car wouldn’t start — the battery was dead. So he went back inside and bought a pair of jumper cables.
A man in a white truck was parked next to him, so Jordan asked if he could help jump the car. The man looked at him and said, “What you really need is a new battery.” Jordan explained that he couldn’t afford one right now because his $400 insurance payment was due that same day.
The man noticed the baby in the car and asked if Jordan was a single dad. Jordan told him, “No, her mom’s at work.” The man nodded and told him to pull around to the auto department, so Jordan did. He thought maybe the man was going to ask them to charge the old battery, but the auto center was packed.
Then the man said, “Follow me to AutoZone.”
Jordan followed him over, and the man went inside to talk to someone. A few minutes later, he came back out, shook Jordan’s hand, and said, “Someone will be right out to help you,” then drove away. Moments later, an employee came out with a brand new battery — the man had already paid for it.
As Jordan told me the story, his eyes filled with tears. “Mom,” he said quietly, “I didn’t even get his name.”
To the man in the white truck in North Augusta who helped my son and granddaughter — thank you from the bottom of my heart. You turned an ordinary day into a reminder that kindness still exists. ❤️
