JUST IN: American Airlines flight forced to return to Las Vegas after an engine apparently caught on fire midair.
American Airlines Flight 1665 was in the air for about 10 minutes after taking off from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for Charlotte, North Carolina.
153 passengers were on board, according to CBS News. The plane quickly turned around after smoke started coming from one of the engines.
“The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power and customers deplaned normally,” American Airlines said in a statement.
“We appreciate the professionalism of our crew and thank our team who are working to get our customers to their destinations as quickly as possible.”
American Airlines says their inspection found that there was “no evidence” that the engine caught on fire, according to CBS.
The plane is reportedly an Airbus A321.
