Mary Davis and her husband Ari Kadin had two miscarriages and felt a big ache in their hearts. They wanted to find peace but didn’t know how. In 2013, they started a nonprofit “Worthy of Love” in Los Angeles, California. What began with 15 kids on a rooftop soon grew into something incredible. They throw birthday parties for more than 200 children experiencing homelessness every month.
Families who are going through tough times come together to celebrate. Children light up as they cut cake and play fun games under colorful decorations. Mary and Ari’s dream started out small, but now over 40,000 kids in Los Angeles and Houston have had special parties at shelters and rooftops. Each child leaves feeling like they are truly seen and loved.
Mary and Ari met in 2010 while volunteering to help people on Skid Row in Los Angeles. Mary said, “The goal is for there to be no need for parties because all children have homes.” They’re creating something beautiful for kids who might never have a birthday party.
