Today, a little boy walked into the store and asked me, “Where are the cheapest shoes?” I showed him, then asked if they were for school. He said yes. When I looked down at his feet, I saw his shoes were completely torn apart. I asked if he had worn those on his first day of school, and he quietly said yes. Then he shared a bit of his story in a soft voice — and it broke my heart.

I told him, “Don’t worry. Pick any pair of shoes you like.”
He looked at me in shock and said, “Why? I don’t have the money.”
I said, “Don’t worry, I’ll buy them for you.”

His eyes lit up. “Really?!!”
I smiled and said, “Of course.”

He picked his favorite pair, and I asked him for just one promise: to get good grades and be good in school. He promised. As he kept saying, “This is unreal, I can’t believe it,” my new little buddy walked out of Finish Line with brand-new shoes for the school year.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone smile. Helping people is the best gift God has given me. Have a great school year, kiddo. Bless up. ❤️
