A peaceful goodbye to his grandmother unexpectedly became an act of bravery. In 2009, Raden Soemawinata, then 20, was at Melbourne’s Brighton Pier to spread his grandmother’s ashes. He witnessed a small Maltese-Shih Tzu named Bibi get blown into the turbulent water by a sudden gust of wind. Without hesitation, Raden took off his clothes and jumped into the chilly, rough sea. Battling the strong currents, he rescued the frightened dog and brought her back to safety, returning her to her thankful owner, Sue.
