In the wildest part of the west of Ireland, a rock rises from the waves like the prow of a ship. It is Dún Briste, a mass that has been 228 m from the mainland since a violent storm broke it off in 1393 and left it stranded off the coast. It is 45 m high, 63 m long and 23 m wide, dimensions that make it an exceptional stone sculpture to be photographed from the meadows of Downpatrick Head.
