Christmas had just begun. I’d set up my tree and laid down when the phone rang. My brother’s voice: ‘Mom’s gone.’ Everything inside me shattered—I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t stop shaking. The next morning, I drove home, and there they were—her presents, neatly wrapped, untouched. She’d finished wrapping, sat down, and never got back up. I wish I could’ve told her, just once more, how much her love and words meant. I thought we had time… but time was stolen in an instant.
