In the dead of night, a small girl in Disney pajamas walked into a biker bar. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at the scary-looking men. She walked right up to the biggest, most-scarred biker, a man named Snake, and tugged on his vest.
“The bad man locked Mommy in the basement,” she whispered, “and she won’t wake up.” She then added the words that made every biker in the room freeze: “He’s a policeman. Mommy said to find bikers because you protect people.”
Without a second thought, Snake scooped her up. He looked at his crew. “Brothers,” he said, his voice cutting through the silence. “We ride. We’re not just finding her mommy. We’re bringing this family home.”
The bikers moved quickly. While two created a noisy distraction across town, Snake and a few others moved silently to the policeman’s house. They found the little girl’s brother safe upstairs and her mother, bruised and unconscious, in the basement. As they rescued the family, the club’s tech expert recorded a phone call with the bad cop, getting him to admit everything.
By the time the cop got home, the house was empty. The evidence was sent to the state troopers and a news station, leaving no room for a cover-up. The biker gang, the Iron Wolves, were hailed as heroes.
Weeks later, the mother, Sarah, sat with Snake. “My grandmother told me some protectors wear badges, and some wear leather,” she said. “I told Emma to find you because I knew you wouldn’t see my past. You’d just see my kids.”
Snake watched as a massive biker let Emma chase a firefly that had landed on his boot. “We’re not heroes, ma’am,” he said. “We’re just the monsters that other monsters are afraid of.”
In that moment, a broken family had found their guardians.
