Wednesday afternoon, while driving west on I-40, my blood sugar suddenly dropped to a dangerous level. Thankfully, a Burger King was at the next exit, so I pulled off.
As I stumbled through my order at the drive-thru, I told the voice on the speaker that I was diabetic and badly needed food. Low blood sugar makes it hard to think or act clearly.
When I pulled up to the first window to pay, I was stunned—Burger King employee Tina Hardy came running toward my car, squeezing between the building and the front bumper, carrying a small serving of ice cream.
She later explained that her husband is also diabetic, and she recognized immediately that I was in trouble.
After I paid, I pulled up to Tina’s window to get my food. She instructed me to park nearby so she could keep an eye on me until I felt better. Her kindness and quick thinking helped me more than she’ll ever know.
Once I had recovered, I went back to thank her, take a photo, and let her supervisor know what she had done.
If you appreciate this act of compassion, please share Tina Hardy’s story. She deserves recognition—from her community and from Burger King—for going above and beyond to help a stranger in need. ❤️
