The harpy eagle, previously thought to be extinct in Mexico, has been rediscovered in the Lacandon Jungle of Chiapas.

“It flew next to us, giving incredible shots. Today, there’s hope we can save this majestic bird,” Efraín Orantes Abadía, conservationist who witnessed the eagle, commented.

The harpy eagle is among the world’s largest birds of prey, with a wingspan reaching 2.2 meters.
