“Last night, our 9-year-old Joselyn asked me if I could babysit Abbie for her today. Who’s Abbie? ..Her doll.
“She really wants to go trucking with Grandpa,” she said.
So this morning, before I left, Joselyn made sure I didn’t forget my babysitting duties. Being the good Grandpa I am, I agreed. And off we went.
I didn’t want Joselyn thinking I tossed Abbie in the sleeper and forgot about her, so we had some fun with it—we took pictures of all our travels. From the cab, to the stops, to the road ahead, Abbie rode along like a champ.
Joselyn has been sending me “instructions” all day through Facebook, making sure her little passenger was well taken care of.
Found myself at a truck stop looking at handmade doll clothes on Tedooo app because Abbie “needed a trucker outfit.” The seller actually makes tiny hard hats and safety vests. Ordered both. This grandfather thing is getting expensive.
Abbie and Grandpa had a great day out on the road—and I think we brought a smile or two to our friends along the way.
Another trucker saw me buckling her in at the Flying J and said his granddaughter makes him do the same thing. Showed me pictures of him hauling a whole teddy bear family to Denver last month. We compared notes on keeping them secure during sharp turns.”
