Diva, a 2 1/2-year-old Red Tick Coon Hound, entered our lives after being surrendered during the Missouri floods. My 13-year-old son had been requesting a dog for quite some time, but I had always hesitated. However, one day he earnestly pleaded with me to visit the Humane Society to meet some dogs. Little did I know, he had already discovered Diva online. When we arrived at the shelter and Diva was brought into the room, I was astounded by her immediate affection. She rushed to my son, wrapping her paws around his neck in a heartwarming hug, and then did the same with me. It was a moment that melted my heart.
As a single mother, I was unsure about the responsibilities of having a dog, but recognizing my son’s need for companionship, I took the leap. Diva quickly became a beacon of hope in my son’s life. He had been battling depression, and Diva opened up his heart, allowing him to forge new friendships in our neighborhood. Her playful antics have brought immense joy, filling our home with laughter. Diva’s sweet demeanor and vibrant personality have also won over my two cats. I can’t imagine our lives without her now, and I am incredibly grateful that she chose us to be her family.
