🚑 From Ad Man to Lifesaver — “Pops” the EMT
At 65, most people slow down. Ed Levien sped up.
After a bad moped crash in Bermuda left him in chronic pain — and deeply grateful to strangers who helped him — he decided to give back.
He joined the Bethesda-Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad, training alongside classmates decades younger. Twelve years later, “Pops” has answered 3,300+ emergency calls and given 13,000 volunteer hours — delivering babies, stopping life-threatening bleeds, and comforting families in crisis, all while managing emphysema and hearing loss.
Though he’s retired from the front lines, he still trains recruits, stocks ambulances, and keeps the squad running.
For his team and his community, “Pops” isn’t just a nickname — it’s a badge of love and respect. ❤️
