I was new in town, getting used to everything—new roads, buses, schedules. I took the bus to the store, got my groceries, and felt a little better. But when I went to pay, I realized I’d forgotten my EBT card.

Mortified, I asked the cashier to cancel the order. The manager offered to hold my cart, but I couldn’t come back easily. I was about to leave empty-handed when a kind stranger intervened.

The woman behind me had heard. She offered to pay for my groceries.

I was stunned and kept asking if she was sure—it was a lot. She insisted. Overwhelmed, I said I’d accept if I could hug her. She smiled and hugged me right there. I cried, thanking her repeatedly.

I took a quick picture—not for social media, but as a memory, hoping she might see it someday. I never got her name, but she was an angel to me.

She did more than just buy food. She gave me something bigger—hope in people. A reminder that even when things are tough, kindness can come when you need it most.
