In Kissimmee, Florida, a dog was found lying on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Osceola County Deputy Josh Fiorelli happened to pass by and saw the injured pup.

The dog, a white female, was alive but too hurt to move. Seeing her like that broke Josh’s heart. He quickly called for help, then sat down beside her, gently petting her so she wouldn’t feel alone.

Some dogs become defensive when they’re in pain—but not this one. She seemed comforted by Josh’s presence. To keep her warm on the chilly day, he even took off his jacket and laid it over her.

“She didn’t have anyone there, so I decided to be that person,” Josh said.

The dog was later treated for a dislocated leg. While this was happening, a passerby named Carlos Irizzary, out walking his own dog, spotted the touching moment. He snapped a photo of Josh sitting with the injured pup and shared it online.

The picture quickly went viral, spreading across news outlets nationwide. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office also posted it on their website with a message of gratitude: “Thank you, Deputy Fiorelli, for serving with care and compassion.”
