Juan Soto has called himself a New Yorker only a couple of months beyond one full baseball season, but he most definitely knows the score. He understands what it’s going to be like Friday night at Yankee Stadium for the ex-Yankee and relatively new Met with the record $765 million contract.
“It’s going to be 50,000 against one,” Soto told me matter-of-factly.
The fan response is obvious to him, and he’s OK with it. Yankees fans are proud, passionate and practically unfamiliar with losing. And to them, Soto represents a serious setback.
“They’re going to try to get on me, you know. It’s part of it,” Soto said.
