A 21-year-old congressional intern was killed Monday night in what police believe was a targeted shooting that claimed an unintended victim in Northwest Washington, D.C.
Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, of Granby, Massachusetts, died Tuesday after being shot the night before near the intersection of 7th and M Street.
Tarpinian-Jachym, who had been serving as an intern for Rep. Ron Estes since June, was a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was majoring in finance with a minor in political science.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred around 10:28 p.m. Monday when multiple suspects emerged from a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people. Three victims were struck: Tarpinian-Jachym, an adult female, and a 16-year-old male.
While the other two victims were conscious when police arrived, Tarpinian-Jachym was found unconscious. All three were transported to local hospitals, where Tarpinian-Jachym succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, according to NewsBreak
