Love Beyond Life: The Tragic Story of Riste Trajkovski and Floppy the Giraffe

The Deep Connection Between Humans and Animals

Throughout history, humans have shared profound relationships with animals. The bond between a person and their pet can be so strong that separation feels impossible. This connection extends far beyond domestic animals, revealing the true depth of love, trust, and companionship that can form between species.

A Heartbreaking Day at Skopje Zoo

On November 26, 2023, Skopje Zoo experienced an immensely tragic day. Riste Trajkovski, the 44-year-old caretaker admired for his compassion and his exceptional care for giraffes, passed away unexpectedly. His gentle way of working with exotic animals made him a beloved figure both in Skopje and among animal lovers worldwide.

Floppy’s Sudden Passing

Only a few hours after Trajkovski’s death, tragedy struck again. Floppy, the zoo’s last remaining giraffe and a ten-year-old gentle giant, also passed away.
Zoo staff fought desperately to save Floppy, but despite their efforts, they were unable to prevent the loss.

A Loss Felt by the Entire Community

The deaths of Riste Trajkovski and Floppy represent more than a loss for Skopje Zoo, they mark a profound heartbreak for the entire community. Trajkovski’s dedication to animals inspired many, and the passing of both the caretaker and the zoo’s last giraffe highlights the challenges modern zoos face in protecting and preserving vulnerable species.

Continuing a Legacy of Compassion

Skopje Zoo now faces the difficult task of rebuilding, continuing Trajkovski’s mission, and caring for the animals that remain. His legacy lives on through the compassion he showed and the lives he touched, both human and animal.
