Mets slugger crushes three-run homer for first career All-Star Game blast

Pete Alonso hadn’t ever homered in the All-Star Game — until Tuesday.

The Mets slugger crushed a three-run homer the opposite way off Royals lefty Kris Bubic on Tuesday night in Atlanta to give the National League a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Senior Circuit won the contest in a swing-off following the ninth inning.

With runners on the corners and nobody out, Alonso, a five-time All-Star, smacked a 1-0 pitch 367 feet over the high wall in right at Truist Park.

“That was great. It’s an unbelievable environment here,” Alonso told Fox following his long ball. “Great job from the guys in front of me. [Fernando Tatis Jr.] had an unbelievable AB. [Brendan Donovan] hustling out a single there. Unbelievable baserunning from those guys. They set up the whole situation.”

It marked the first Mets homer in the All-Star Game since David Wright went deep in 2006 in Pittsburgh.

The first baseman finished the game 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Alonso was set to hit third in the swing-off, but Kyle Schwarber’s three home runs in the second round won it for the NL after the AL’s Jonathan Aranda went homerless in his three swings.
