NEW: Republican Rep. Don Bacon (NE) opposes Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s plan to reduce military assistance to Ukraine – KETV

Congressman Don Bacon was busy on Capitol Hill this week, but before returning to Nebraska for the weekend, he discussed developments in Washington, D.C., and abroad.

The top of his priorities is the U.S. military’s spending and a recent report discussing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s move to pull money from barracks and dormitories to put toward the US-Mexico border.

“This year, we added about $1 billion to help start working, to get our dorms and barracks caught up to the standards that we expect for our sons and daughters that serve. And to hear that the Secretary of Defense siphoned off this billion dollars and put it towards the border, if it is true, it’s unacceptable,” Bacon said.

The congressman is also pushing back on a recent letter from the Nebraska Republican Party, which he said goes in the wrong direction in its support for ending military aid to Ukraine.

“If Ukraine falls, Moldova will be next. Georgia will likely be next,” he said. “We got to acknowledge Russia and President (Vladimir) Putin are threats.”
