Idk if this has been hashed out here but saw this scene again recently and it hit me like an epiphany: I wonder if maybe the Darger family would’ve been a better casting choice for a polygamist family to go public? (Caveat: I’ve done absolutely no research on these people. If there are social media skeletons I “ought” to know… my bad.)
But if you’re looking for a plural marriage that’s intended to be positive & model “functionality,” how do you look past the fact that these four* paragons of adulthood couldn’t figure out amongst themselves, or find anything in their fabulous religious text, that could help them work through SHARING A KITCHEN? (*Five if you include Robyn— but she wasn’t really there in Lehi.) Literally “couldn’t heal from it?” I mean damn, I’ve had some nasty roommates in my life…but I’ve healed. (What would Joseph Smith do?)
At least with the Dargers we’d get to see how that would actually work. Maybe they would have been a somewhat healthier clan to get to know.
