The pilot was waiting as I got out of my wheelchair to board my flight to Portland. He followed me and the flight attendant who was carrying my bag. As soon as I was in my seat, he asked, “Were you in the military?”
“Yes,” I replied.
“Afghanistan, 2010?” he asked.
“Yesss,” I said, surprised.
He told me he recognized my face and my injuries, and that he’d never known if I had survived. His name is Marc Vincequere. He was the pilot who flew me out of Afghanistan, and now he flies for United. It’s a crazy small world.
