This is Andy. He works at the Lowe’s in Wilkesboro, NC. In the wheelchair is our sweet rescue dog, Baxter. A couple of weeks ago, my best friend and I took Baxter’s cart to Lowe’s to find the right parts to add a small rear wheel so his cart wouldn’t tip over. We ended up at the project desk and asked if there was someone who could think creatively and help us figure it out. That’s when we met Andy.
Andy came right over and sat on the floor with us in the hardware aisle. He spent almost an hour helping us look at parts, share ideas, and come up with a plan. We walked out with everything we needed and had only spent $5.
After Baxter had a vet appointment, we took him back to Lowe’s so Andy could see how the cart turned out. Andy was at the project desk when we got there, and as soon as he saw us, he came out and sat right on the floor again. He said hello to Baxter and checked out the new wheel setup. I explained how we had to make a few extra changes, and Andy gave it a good look and said it was perfect.
I asked to speak with the manager because we wanted to make sure Andy’s kindness and effort were recognized. His help and patience meant so much to us, and we wanted his manager to know. The manager asked us to share the story on Facebook so he could pass it along to Corporate.
You know the saying, “a little appreciation goes a long way”? That’s exactly what happened. Andy seemed really touched that we came back to show him the final result and thank him in person. He even said he and his wife would love to dog-sit Baxter sometime and gave us both big hugs before we left.
As my friend Lolly said, “Andy’s reaction made my heart smile.” I couldn’t agree more. Please feel free to share this story and help us let Andy know how much the rescue and dog-loving community appreciates his help. And if you ever find yourself near Wilkesboro, NC, stop by Lowe’s and shake Andy’s hand. He’s truly a gem.
