Torene Butterfield is a 19-year-old with a big dream. She’s from Prince George’s County, Maryland and after years of hard work, Torene has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy for the Class of 2029. Her journey was not easy though.
Torene is the first in her family to ever attend a school like this. She lost her grandmother who helped raise her. Even through it all, she worked day and night. She mastered French and Mandarin, excelled in leadership programs, and completed the Naval Academy Preparatory School.
Her mother Karene and stepfather Lee Putney were with her every step of the way. They said, “This is the story of a young woman who stayed the course.” Now Torene is a Midshipman preparing to wear the uniform of a future Navy officer. She is ready to lead, protect her country, and inspire others. Congratulations Torene! 👏
