While shopping at Walmart, I listened as a young man told the cashier, “I worked all summer so my mom wouldn’t have to pay for my school supplies.” I was touched by his dedication.

My husband, Alan, immediately went up to the boy, shook his hand, and secretly paid for all of his supplies. He just wanted to support the young man’s effort to help his family.

In a world often filled with negativity, this small act of compassion was a hopeful sign that kindness still exists in everyday life.

I hope this story encourages us to notice and appreciate the quiet strength of others.
