Yesterday morning, I went to make my two-year-old scrambled eggs—her favorite—but realized we were out. I made her something else, but I put eggs at the top of my grocery list.

Later, after taking my three girls to the park, I planned to stop at the store. But just as I was about to pull in, the sky opened up, and rain started pouring down. Rather than dragging everyone out in the storm, I called my mom, who was coming over later anyway.

“Do you have any eggs?” I asked.

“Of course, I’ll check,” she said. And that was that.

When she arrived for dinner, she handed me a plastic bag with a carton of eggs inside.

“Thank you so much. I’m glad you had these,” I said, placing them on the counter.

“Oh, I didn’t,” she replied. “I went to the store and bought them for you.”

I was stunned. “Omg, you didn’t have to do that. That was so unnecessary—we could have gone tomorrow.”

“Yes, I did,” she said simply. “I couldn’t bear to think that my babies didn’t have what they needed.”

And that’s a mother’s love.

It goes above and beyond, no questions asked. It’s unconditional.

A mother always takes care of her babies—even when her baby is 34 years old and a mother herself.

My mom once told me that now that I have kids, she has even more people to worry about. But her heart has never been so full of love.

Sometimes, a mother’s love looks like helping her child through life’s toughest struggles. Other times, it looks like braving the rain to buy a simple carton of eggs.

And both acts of love mean the entire world….
